Why invest in Spain?

Spain is the eighth economy in the world and the seventh largest of the OECD member countries. It is a dynamic economy, with growth doubling the EU average. In 2006 Spain was responsible for 1/3 of the total employment created in the European Union

The geostrategic importance of Spain, as an international business platform, is another of the advantages of investing in the country, serving as it does as the gateway to the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as a springboard for Latin America, thanks to its strong economic, historical and cultural ties. Spain boasts many other attributes that make it a very attractive place for doing business. telecommunications networks, its young, highly trained labour force and its highly competitive office rental and cost of living.

It is also worth noting that the tax burden in Spain (measured by taxation and social security contributions as a percentage of GDP), is 5% below that of neighboring countries. In January 2007, a new pro-business tax reform was introduced that includes a 5% cut in corporate tax for 2007-2008. No surprise then that Spain was ranked ninth in the world in terms of Foreign Direct Investment inflows and eight in terms of FDI stock, according to the UNCTAD “World Investment Report” in 2006.

Spain also offers exceptional quality of life thanks to the openness of its people, a broad range of educational and cultural opportunities and world-class leisure and sporting activities. As a result of that, Spain is the second most popular tourist destination in the world in terms of both visitor numbers and revenues generated.

Spain offers interesting opportunities in diverse sectors: renewable energy, ICT biotechnology, pharma and health care sciences, aerospace industry, water treatment and desalination, logistics, automotive industry and tourism Nor is there any question that the climate is very appealing to foreign investors when deciding where to locate factories, innovation centers headquarters, or high added value services, such as design and R&D
