QUALITY EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) is a private institution of higher education which was established in 1998 and is located in the centre of historic Prague. At UNYP, we offer American Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, International Relations, Communication and Mass Media, Psychology and English Literature. Additionally, we have a Czech Bachelor’s programme (BBA), a weekend MBA programme, and a Master’s programme in Public Relations.
UNYP follows the American model of education, and is partnered with the State University of New York (SUNY) Empire State College and New Paltz. This means that our Bachelor’s students have the option to take and study Empire State College courses right here on UNYP’s campus, or transfer to New Paltz for Study Abroad. Either way, our students study similar courses to their American counterparts in the SUNY system. And once they graduate, they’ll receive an American diploma from SUNY in addition to a Czech recognized degree. These dual degrees help provide UNYP students with more opportunities for their career and graduate school.
As an American university, all classes at UNYP are taught solely in English to an international study body. At UNYP, our students hail from all over the world–China, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, France, England, and the USA, to name just a few. In fact, we’ve counted 64 different countries so far. Of course, due to our location, nearly 40% of our students are from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but with more than half of our students being so diverse, students are forced to use English both in and out of the classroom. UNYP’s faculty members are also international, although they are predominantly from the US, the UK, and other EU countries. Many of them have PhDs, and are respected scholars and experts in their field. This greatly improves the quality of a UNYP education.
At UNYP, we also help our students gain professional experience. We have an internship programme in conjunction with Empire State College, where students choose to work part-time at a local company for course credit in their senior year. We also host business seminars on campus, where company representatives come to discuss their business or industry with students.
UNYP also offers its own European Bachelor’s programme accredited by the Czech Ministry of education. Our MBA programs are partnered with the Institut Universitaire Kurt Bosch, from Sion, Switzerland. And our Master’s program in Professional Communication and PR is offered in cooperation with LaSalle University from the US. These particular programmes are intended for experienced working professionals who seek to earn academic degrees in an international environment. All classes are taught in English.
“What I value the most at UNYP is that it requires the students to master analytical thinking rather than memorisation. Often, a lecturer is at the same time a professional of the subject he/she teaches. UNYP enables students to pursue internships or part-time jobs. Students are taught to be autonomous, to handle presentations in front of a large audience as well as to work in teams. UNYP students of business majors are beginning to be preferred to other students of public universities by major international companies in Prague. I sincerely believe that UNYP is the best university in the Central and Eastern Europe.” Šádí Shanaáh, Bachelor’s graduate 2006.
